The Trinity (God In 3 Persons)

Bible Verses That Support The Trinity:
(Verses Are NLT, Unless Otherwise Noted)

Genesis 1:1-2 … In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.

Genesis 1:26 … Then God said, “Let us make human beings [man] in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”

The Hebrew “Elohim” can allow for plurality within the Triune Godhead … Father – Son – Spirit.

Who would God be talking to, when He said, “Let US make man?” If He was talking to angels, wouldn’t He have said, “Let ME make man?”

Matthew 3:16-17 … After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”

Matthew 28:19 … Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

John 14:16-17 … And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate [or Comforter / Encourager / Counselor], who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.

Acts 5:3-4, 9 … Then Peter said, “Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself. The property was yours to sell or not sell, as you wished. And after selling it, the money was also yours to give away. How could you do a thing like this? You weren’t lying to us but to God!” … And Peter said, “How could the two of you even think of conspiring to test the Spirit of the Lord like this? The young men who buried your husband are just outside the door, and they will carry you out, too.”

Romans 8:15-17 … So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering.

Denominational Beliefs on the Trinity
(Alphabetical Order)
(If Your Denomination Isn’t Listed, Please Send Me What They Believe)
(Some Beliefs May Be About God, in general, and not the Trinity specifically)

Anglican (39 Articles) … There is but one living and true God, everlasting, without body, parts, or passions; of infinite power, wisdom, and goodness; the Maker, and Preserver of all things both visible and invisible. And in unity of this Godhead there be three Persons, of one substance, power, and eternity; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.

Church of God (Anderson, IN) … We believe in one God in three persons— Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—who created all things visible and invisible, and out of chaos created order. Our hearts are made glad that God is fully revealed in the Lord Jesus Christ, the incarnate Son of God, who was born to the Virgin Mary through the agency of the Holy Spirit, and lived on earth as both fully human and fully divine. We are grateful that the Holy Spirit leads us into all truth, convicts us of sin, leads us to and incorporates us
into Christ, and empowers us for Christian witness.

Church of God (Cleveland, TN) … We believe in one God eternally existing in three persons; namely, the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Lutheran (Missouri) … On the basis of the Holy Scriptures we teach the sublime article of the Holy Trinity; that is, we teach that the one true God, (Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 Corinthians 8:4), is the Father and the Son and the Holy Ghost, three distinct persons, but of one and the same divine essence, equal in power, equal in eternity, equal in majesty, because each person possesses the one divine essence entire, (Colossians 2:9, Matthew 28:19). We hold that all teachers and communions that deny the doctrine of the Holy Trinity are outside the pale of the Christian Church. The Triune God is the God who is gracious to man, (John 3:16-18, 1 Corinthians 12:3). Since the Fall, no man can believe in the “fatherhood” of God except he believe in the eternal Son of God, who became man and reconciled us to God by His vicarious satisfaction, (1 John 2:23; John 14:6). Hence we warn against Unitarianism, which in our country has to a great extent impenetrated the sects and is being spread particularly also through the influence of the lodges.

Nazarene … We believe in one eternally existent, infinite God, Sovereign Creator and Sustainer of the universe; that He only is God, holy in nature, attributes, and purpose. The God who is holy love and light is Triune in essential being, revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Seventh-day Adventists … There is one God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, a unity of three coeternal Persons. God is immortal, all-powerful, all-knowing, above all, and ever present. He is infinite and beyond human comprehension, yet known through His self-revelation. God, who is love, is forever worthy of worship, adoration, and service by the whole creation.

Southern Baptists … There is one and only one living and true God.  The eternal triune God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being.

United Methodist … There is but one living and true God, everlasting, without body or parts, of infinite power, wisdom, and goodness; the maker and preserver of all things, both visible and invisible. And in unity of this Godhead there are three persons, of one substance, power, and eternity—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.

Wesleyan … We believe in the one living and true God, both holy and loving, eternal, unlimited in power, wisdom and goodness, the Creator and Preserver of all things. Within this unity there are three persons of one essential nature, power and eternity — the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Westminster Confession (Reformed) … In the unity of the Godhead there be three persons, of one substance, power, and eternity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost: the Father is of none, neither begotten, nor proceeding; the Son is eternally begotten of the Father; the Holy Ghost eternally proceeding from the Father and the Son.
